Jean Shin
Found Installation series, 2002
In her Found Installation series, Shin photographed occurrences of accumulated objects in the open markets of Seoul. The images are cropped so as to make no reference to a specific place, as if they could have been taken anywhere. The piles of objects, carefully stacked and organized, become abstracted and removed from their commonplace origins. Thus, the photographs suggest that materials become global and, in turn, non-specific to one culture or marketplace.
